How Fake IDP Scams Usually Work
Step 1: Urgency Marketing
Scam sites promise instant worldwide approval and target travelers who are booking last minute. Fake countdown timers and limited-stock warnings are common.
Step 2: Digital-Only "Delivery"
You receive a PDF, mobile wallet card, or screenshot. No official physical booklet is ever sent. Some include fake QR codes or holograms.
Step 3: Check-In Rejection
At verification, staff cannot match the document to any recognized treaty or issuing authority. The tour cannot proceed and refunds are not given.
Red Flags to Check Before You Pay
No clear mention of "1949 Geneva Convention" on the document or website
No country-specific issuer details (AAA, CAA, Post Office, etc.)
Promises of universal driving rights in every country
Only digital files — no option for a physical booklet
No verifiable physical address or phone support
Website uses stock photos, generic testimonials, or fake reviews
Prices far below official issuer rates (real IDPs cost $20–$40, not $80–$150)
Safer Alternative: Verify Your Correct Route First
Instead of buying from unknown websites, use the eligibility questionnaire to confirm whether you need a 1949 IDP, JAF translation, SOFA documentation, or a Japanese license.
